In a thread on Skim’s forum Andrea Bergia writes:

And in a follow up, he writes.

I am seriously thinking about declaring PDFView “dead” and Skim as the “successor”; I’ll just wait for some more LaTeX support (and maybe I’ll try to help a bit with writing it).

Since then, as I noted here, Skim has gained support for pdfsync and Andrea is listed as a Skim developer.

Could this be the end of PDFView?

On a related note, TextMate now supports Skim as a LaTeX previewer.
